Welcome to Rainbow Words! Rainbow words come from the first grade sight word list. These words need to be practiced every night (in addition to the Fundations spelling words). Through repeated exposure and practice of the words, your child should be able to say each word as soon as he/she sees it, without hesitation. The repetition of the words will increase reading fluency and accelerate reading levels.
Once your child can identify the words to me on two separate occasions, with NO HESITATION, your child will be given a new set of words to study (we will test kids on Tuesday and Thursday). The first set of words is on red paper. The following sets will be orange, yellow, green, blue, pink, purple, white, ivory and gray. It is expected that all children will read through all of the rainbow colors by the end of the year. The words need to come back and forth to school every day, in their green take home folder.
Please help your child keep track of his/her words, and remember to practice them every night! You will be amazed at the difference it will make in your child’s reading!
